EDITORIAL
Summary
Response to Maximum Rocknroll's decision to publish a recent sensationalist and inflammatory letter portraying the New York scene as racist, promoting nazism and essentially serving as the headquarters of the National Front; false allegations that inder NY bands from booking out-of-town shows. The unprofessional decision to publish the letter reinforces the popular view that MRR has never really presented a favorable view of NY. The publication of the opiniated, unsubstantiated allegations further reduces MRR's credibility. The letter is more appropriate for publication in the National Enquirer.
Announcement that a new club called The Coventry has opened at Plaza 27 (Queensborough Plaza); features hardcore every Friday night.
Note to Javi Savage (Big City Fanzine): Ultraviolence [Wikiwand] did not appreciate the unauthorized use of one of their demo tapes.

A Reader Submits a Few Unsolicited Reviews / Cartoons / Photos:
-- the anarchic punk scene in NY sucks
-- only CBGB regularly books hardcore; a few Brooklyn clubs closed after single gigs
-- participants of the clubs are partially responsible; (eg. in The V.I.P. Room the singer for Hellbent broke a water pipe)
-- at the Mad Club there were so many fights (mostly among girls) the owner pulled the plug early
-- hopefully the nonviolence at CBGB will last forever, and the price increases (now $5) will not
-- the reader's Review of N.Y.P.D. / Satan's Cheerleaders / Nihilistics; Venue: My Father's Place; N.Y.P.D. (Long Island) played because Murphy's Law didn't show; Satan's Cheerleaders is the best, original new band with lyrics that employ intelligent use of figurative language and interesting musical findings in rhythm and tempo
-- Nihilistics [Interview 2020; No Echo] were taping a video that night, and were fast, tight, and not too drunk. But they were boring; had to ask for applause and mention Atlantic's interest in the band. The audience -- 90% of which did not know the meaning of 'Nihilishm,' fought off yawning.
-- the reader adds that he's been living in the U.S.A. for 4 years, welcomes questions about Russia and Russians, and praises democracy despite its inherent weak points
A Reader Submits a Poem Entitled "Guilt'
-- the poet was told by a mentor-of-sorts that the magazine might not find the poem 'hardcore enough'
-- the poet submitted the poem anyway, partially due to the absence of a 'hardcore material only' notice next to the fanzine's address
-- the poet's poem, 'Guilt,' is published in this issue

Summary: Balancing the need to support and appreciate the personal sacrifices and investments made by bands, while acknowledging the rising cover charges and other costs which are creating hardships for customers.
